I picked up a copy of You Should Have Heard... at Culture Clash this past weekend and I'm really digging it.  I particularly like your analyses of heavy metal and hardcore, though my favorite essay hands-down so far is your contrast between Laurie Anderson and Captain Beefheart.

Thanks for putting this out there--it's a great resource for those of us who were too young to catch music in the early 1980s the first time around (and for those who were old enough and those who were too old...)!

Ted Nugent's niece

One of the young women who attended my talk at the Michigan Association of Communications Studies in Ann Arbor on 12 January 2011 was Ted Nugent's niece. Of course, I gave her a free copy of the book in the hopes that she'd give it to The Nuge when she was done. I too once suffered from cat scratch fever!

Another trip to Ann Arbor

I will be returning to Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Wednesday, 12 January 2011 to address the Michigan Association of Communications Studies, which is "a business-oriented student group composed of students interested in pursuing a career in communications studies." Not sure if the event, which is to be held at 6 pm, will be open to the public. Probably not. Nevertheless, get in touch if you'd like to get together while I'm in town. I'll be staying overnight.
